Komodo National Park was established in 1980 to protect Komodo dragons and their habitat. Nestled within the Indonesian archipelago, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and unique biodiversity. Located in the Lesser Sunda Islands, it encompasses several islands, with the primary ones being Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and a few smaller islets.
In this national park, there are hundreds of species of animals which are a combination of animals originating from Asia and Australia, consisting of dozens of species of mammals, hundreds of species of birds, and dozens of species of reptiles.
The park covers a vast area of approximately 1,733 square kilometers, with over 600 square kilometers of marine territory. Its rugged terrain comprises volcanic hills, savannahs, and lush forests, providing a habitat for a diverse array of flora and fauna.
The star attraction of the park is the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard and a living relic of prehistoric times. These formidable creatures, which can grow up to three meters in length, roam freely across the islands, captivating visitors with their fascinating behaviors and ancient lineage.
